WELBORNE  ARTS  FESTIVAL

Saturday 13 June and Sunday 14 June 2009

10.30 am – 4.30 pm


         

 

 Our eighth festival, with the theme of ‘the world around us’, included top quality visual art, music, literature, performance and children’s activities.


EXHIBITIONS

We are delighted to welcome the long established artists’ group, the Norwich Twenty Group.

We welcome back the Norwich Print Fair as well as our regular high quality villagers’ exhibition.

Solo improvised guitar, creating an ever changing and evolving backdrop of musical themes.

Ad-Lib
A mix of styles, songs and instruments, including guitar, double bass, harmonica, whistles, clarinet, flute, trumpet and hand percussion.

Axel Loughrey
on resonator and harmonica, and Simon Hallett on bodhran and cajon.

Nappertandy
A sneak preview before their concert tonight.

Taillevent
from Brittany, France.
Formed in 1990 to revive the tradition of Maritime songs from the Morbihan in Brittany.

ON THE MEADOW

Horses and riders from Kensington Lodge Farm perform a drill ride to music, morning and afternoon on both days of the festival at 11.30 am and 2.30 pm .

PERFORMANCE

Anna Mudeka returns to Welborne after her fantastic concert here last autumn. Anna will run drumming and craft workshops.

READINGS AND BOOK SIGNINGS

Absolute Fiction - a group of local authors - were recently selected for an Arts Council programme. Famed for their entertaining presentations, several of them will be giving short readings from their new   novels and signing books. (Sat 13 June, 11.30 am)

Acclaimed Norfolk-based author and naturalist, Mark Cocker’s books include the highly praised “Crow Country” and “Birds Britannica.” You’ll be able to ask him about his work and his books. (Sat 13 June 2.30 pm)

 


Poets Dean Parkin and Andrea Porter

come to us fresh from the Poetry Next the Sea event at Wells. (Sun 14 June 11.30 am

 

 

 Giles Foden’s book “The Last King of Scotland”, about Idi Amin, was made into a film. He’s written four novels and teaches creative writing at the University of East Anglia. He will talk about his work and answer questions (Sun 14 June 2.30 pm)

IN THE CHURCH

The Worstead Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers will demonstrate a wide range of weaving techniques and give you the chance to have a go.

 An exhibition of work that children from local schools have produced with the Worstead Guild in the weeks before the festival.
